NCLB PUBLIC SCHOOL TRANSFER WITH TRANSPORTATION
 

What is NCLB public school transfer with transportation?

  • Under the Florida's Differentiated Accountability Model, all Title I schools with three or more consecutive years of not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) must provide parents the option to transfer their children to a higher performing public school.
  • Transportation will be provided only for students selecting a school within their geographic zone that is more than two miles from their place of residence.

When is a child eligible for an NCLB public school transfer?

  • As per the Florida's Differentiated Accountability Model, when a child attends a Title I school that has not made AYP for three or more consecutive years.

What is a school’s transportation zone?

  • For the purpose of implementing the NCLB school choice transfer option, an individual transportation zone has been created for every Title I school identified "in need of improvement."
  • Transportation will be provided only if the school selected for transfer is within the residence school’s transportation zone and is located over two miles from the student’s residence.

How will I be able to see a list of schools that I can transfer my child to?

  • If you opt to transfer your child to another school, you may select any one of the receiving schools listed on the NCLB Home and Choice Schools Chart (click here). However, if you would like to receive free transportation provided by the District, you must select one of the two assigned schools listed next to your child’s residence school, and you must reside two or more miles from the receiving school. To help you with your selection, we have included a Receiving School Academic Information chart (click here) which gives specific information regarding the performance of each receiving school.

Where do I apply for a transfer?

  • You can complete a transfer application (click here) at the student's current residence school.
  • You can download an application from this Web site.
  • You can request an application be mailed to your home by calling Title I Administration at 305-274-7468.
  • You can return the application to the student's current residence school or you can mail it to Title I Neighborhood Resource Center South, 5555 SW 93rd Avenue, Portable #3, Miami, Florida 33165

How do I apply for a transfer for my child?

  • Complete an NCLB transfer application (click here).
  • If you opt to transfer your child to another school, you may select any one of the receiving schools listed on the NCLB Home and Choice Schools Chart (click here). However, if you would like to receive free transportation provided by the District, you must select one of the two assigned schools listed next to your child’s residence school, and you must reside two or more miles from the receiving school.   • In order for a transfer application to be valid it must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian of the student and must be date stamped and signed by the appropriate M-DCPS school staff.

When can I request a transfer for my child for the 2011-2012 school year?

  • Based on the 2010 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results, parents of students attending any of the following Sending schools (click here) may complete and submit an application during the enrollment period of April 4, 2011 through April 29, 2011.

How will I know what school my child will be attending for the 2011-2012 school year?

  • Upon the conclusion of the enrollment period, you will receive a Connect ED message on your telephone with information regarding the requested transfer.
    or
  • You may also return to your child's residence school during office hours to obtain the 2011-2012 school placement.

What do I do if I do not like the school my child is transferred to?

  • You may appeal a NCLB assignment by contacting Attendance Services at 305-883-5323 during office hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Will transportation be provided?

  • Transportation will be provided only to those students who select a school for transfer that is within their residence school’s transportation zone and is located more than two miles from their place of residence.
  • Students that are eligible for transportation will receive a Connect Ed message advising them of their bus route stop location and pick-up/drop-off times.

When will services begin?

  • Upon the conclusion of the enrollment period, you will receive a Connect ED message on your telephone with information regarding the requested transfer.

  • Contact the student's current residence school, or call 305 995-FIND (3463), or call Title I Administration at 305-274-7468.
